D2: Keisse/Bartko take over in Ghent

It was a tough night in Ghent for all riders taking part in the "Z6S Daagse Vlaanderen-Gent" with Dortmund and Munich 6D champions Bruno Risi and Franco Marvulli losing the lead to Iljo Keisse and Robert Bartko by a single point!

The top two teams dominated the madison events, with World Champions Risi/Marvulli taking the first race and new leaders Keisse/Bartko claiming victory in the second, giving them just enough points to overhaul the Swiss teams lead

Netherlands duo Robert Slippens and Danny Stam are on the same lap as the leaders in third place, with all other teams at least two laps behind

After the event Race Director Patrick Sercu commented on how disappointed he was with the British team: "Before the start I had hoped for at least four top-teams, but unfortunately Mark Cavendish didn’t bring the right form with him to Ghent, and already on the first evening they lost a lot of laps, which is a pity because Wiggins is riding OK"

Adam Blythe
Adam Blythe slipped to second in the UIV Competition with Kennaugh

Day One: Kennaugh/Blythe lead in Ghent

The British team Peter Kennaugh – Adam Blythe defended the British interest in the best manor during the first stage of the UIV Talents Cup in Ghent 6-Days. Five teams ended the first Madison in the same lap, with the British boys as winners, two points ahead of Belgium team Tuytens – Van der Sande. And the report from Ghent tells us, that Kennaugh - Blythe was also the team with the greatest fighting-spirit on the opening day.

Like they have done in all the previous 6-Days of this winter the Swiss World Champions started with a rush also in the "Zeesdaagse Vlaanderen Gent". After the first evening they are the overall leaders, also if it is only with 6 points to Keisse – Bartko og with in total five teams on zero.

Franco Marvulli
Yet again Marvulli (above) and Risi lead at 6D Comp

Slippens – Stam won the first chase of the 6-Days (40 Min. + 10 laps) with Risi – Marvulli, Keisse – Bartko and Beikirch – Mohs in the same lap. The last team, Schets – De Portere, lost 9 laps during that chase, but the biggest losers were no doubt the recommended British team Wiggins – Cavendish, regarded as one of the top-team but losing 7 laps during the 40 Minutes – and losing another three laps during the second chase!

Bradley Wiggins
A disappointing performance from Wiggins/Cavendish

The second chase (30 Min. + 10 laps) was won by De Ketele – Villa with Roberts – Hester second, those two teams being one lap ahead of the top-teams. De Ketele – Villa thus joined the top-teams in the overall and Robert – Hester, together with another positive surprise of the first evening, Mertens – Mόller, are only one lap down
