16th September 2010: Thailand's round of the 2010 Asia Cup was Peter Pieters' first chance to show what an impact he has made upon the Iran Track Cycling team. The former coach of the Netherlands joined the Iranian Cycling Federation in June as head coach following his departure from the Polish Track Cycling team after the 2010 World Championships. Pieters was behind the successes of the Dutch team and it was evident today that his hard work is paying off with Iran's Track Cyclists as they dominated the event held at the Muamark Velodrome in Thailand. Amir Zargari beat Kazakhstan's Dias Omirzakov to give Iran their first victory of the event in the Men's 4km Individual Pursuit with Korean Seok Yoon Choi taking the Bronze medal. Zargari then helped his team-mates Arvin Moazzemi Godarzi, Alireza Haghi and Abbas Saeidi Tanha take the victory in the Team Pursuit with a time of 4m 25.112s, just under a second faster than Korea's 4m 26.043s recorded by Seok Yoon Choi, Seung Woo Choi, Chaebin Im and Jae-Bien Oh. Seung Woo Choi and Chaebin Im then produced a remarkable one-two finish in the Omnium for Korea as they dominated the event with Yu Motosuna of Japan a distant third. ![]() Iran's Women's Team Pursuit Team took the Bronze medal There was more success for Korea as Seong Gyo Jung beat Iran's star sprinter Ahmad Asgharpour in the Keirin after the Iranian had scooped the Bronze medal in the Sprint behind two more Korean's Jin Won Kang and Ha Neul Jung In the Women's events Hong Kong's Wai Sze Lee was back in action and preparing from the new International season as she claimed the victory in the 500m Time Trial in a time of 35.940s, beating Japanese rider Kayono Maeda who recorded a time of 37.049s. Lee was unlucky to lose out to her team-mate Zhao Juan Meng in the Sprint as the young Hong Kong rider just proved to have the tactical edge in a very close final. Jutatip Maneephan gave the home nation something to cheer about as she secured the Bronze medal for Thailand. The trio repeated this result for the Women's Keirin, meaning the Korean women went home disappointed after not winning a Sprint event after victories in the Individual and Team Pursuit.
