
Krupeckaite Does It Again in BeijingFresh from her clean sweep of the Individual Sprint events at the Cali World Cup, Lithuanian Simona Krupeckaite dominated the Women's Sprint in the Beijing World Cup at the Laoshan Velodrome Krupeckaite topped the 200m Qualification Time Trial standings with a time of 11.304s, 0.1s faster than Ukrainian World Cup leader Lyubov Shulika who recorded a time of 11.434s which was fractionally faster than home favourite Shuang Guo (11.439s), fourth was Dutch rider Willy Kanis with 11.473s Round One saw Krupeckaite meet with Elisa Frisoni of Italy, who caused no problems for Simona as she cruised through to the Quarter Finals in 12.014s Shulika faced up and coming Malaysian rider Fatehah Mustapa, who is from the same small village as Keirin sensation Azizu Awang, however Mustapa is far less experienced than Awang, meaning she didn't have the goods to beat the mighty Shulika who progressed through in 12.326s Shuang Guo and Willy Kanis also both made it through, Guo delighted the Beijing crowd with victory of Hong Kong's Wai Sze Lee, whereas Kanis beat Virginie Cueff of France The Quarter Finals saw another easy victory for Krupeckaite as she effortlessly beat Yulei Xu in 12.189s, Shulika had a tough test against Dutch legend Yvonne Hijgenaar, but she managed to reach the Semi-Finals in a tight finish. Both Shuang Guo and Kanis again made it through, Kanis disappointing the home crowd as she beat another home favourite Lulu Zheng in 12.160s Crunch time, the Semi Finals bought Beijing's big four together as Krupeckaite faced Kanis, and despite the latter trying to make both sprints slow and tactical to her advantage, Krupeckaite simply sat back and waited for the right moment to launch her incredible attack to win in straight heats in 11.847s and 11.811s Semi-Final two saw Shulika face Guo, who looked resplendent on her brand new Dolan DF3 who took the first sprint only to be relegated for entering the Sprinters lane when she 'cut up' Shulika in the last two hundred metres Guo then won fair and squarely in the next heat, levelling the encounter up for a mouth watering final match sprint. With the crowd behind Guo, Shulika faced a huge challenge of overcoming the vastly experienced Chinese rider, however yet again Guo took her eye off Shulika for a second, and bang the Ukrainian was gone and on her way to the final in 12.009s With Krupeckaite on the form of her life even World Cup leader Lyubov Shulika couldn't stop the Lithuanian as Simona cruised to her second World Cup victory in a row in 11.781s and 12.021s Krupeckaite's fantastic form and her dominant victories remind everyone here in Beijing of a certain Olympic, World and Commonwealth Champion and as the pair go head to head in Copenhagen in just over a months time The Bronze Medal ride off saw Willy Kanis get revenge for her defeat at the Olympics four months ago with a two-one victory over Shuang Guo, who again failed to live up to the pressure of performing in front of her homecrowd Results 1.
