Revolution 17 - 20th October 2007

The Revolution series always seems to be held at the wrong time of year for me! Everytime they're on, I’m not in the best of form! Like the start of last series I found myself racing off the back of weekly road training.
This particular event I felt pretty good to be honest. Not having any track time since the Nationals I guess I could say I was pleased with my performance.
To start the night off we had to do some 3 up match sprints, although not having the best of legs I still had my tactical head on. So used this event as an opportunity to see how well I could do.

I was up against Marco Librizzi and the big Spaniard Escuredo. Both of these guys are pretty good bike riders with a lot of experience. I decided to play it safe and not hesitate on getting to the front. From there I led it out for 1 and 3/4 laps and let Marco come over me as he attacked. Leaving a small gap to rush at I went for it with a lap to go, totally forgetting about Escuredo behind me! As I started my sprint Marco had a bit of a wobble which slowed him down a tad, which gave me a better opportunity to get round him. Was kind of trying to anticipate when Escuredo was going to come round but he didn’t! This was a big surprise to me and probably my highlight of the night!

The second round was against Craig, having raced him before at previous Nationals etc, I decided to do something different than lead it out and take it from the back. Most of the race I was trying to push him on and leave a gap to rush at, which I did, but didn’t have the legs to close down! Hah.

Straight after the encounter with Craig I had to go in the losers’ Mile Dash! Just barely catching my breath back haha. Was a pretty good race and Josh led it out quite early, leaving me a gap to rush at and making the field more strung out. Nailed it at the bell and just tried to hang on to the lead only just getting pipped at the line by the Spaniard and Steve!!! Still a good race and very tiring haha.

Next on the prog was the Keirin! A little pressure built up due to my win at the worlds making me the jr world champ at the event!!! Hehe. Overall was a good race and felt I rode it well. Was expecting to have to stick to position 1 as the UCI regulations state, but there was a mass start for the top positions. Having a good push off I gained 3rd spot, best position for me as I can see what’s going on in front and behind, leaving me a range of options to choose from when the bike pulls off. As the bike did pull off Dave decided he wanted the lead! I thought of this as a good opportunity to get to the front and followed his attack. With a lap to go I didn’t have the legs to come past him and settled for a near 2nd place! Cheeky Steve comin under the inside of us all! Haha.

Overall a good night and a lil more cash in my pocket!

Cheers, Chris
