On the 11th to the 15th of July 2007 the European Track Championships took place at Cottbus in Germany. For a second year in a succession the Great Britain Junior team dominated the championships and won the 'Best Nation' Trophy.

15th July 2007: Anna Blyth made it a Women's Keirin double for Great Britain as she repeated Jess Varnish's success last night to claim victory in the U23 Women's Keirin. Blyth who was 4th in the World Keirin Final was the overwhelming favourite for the event, and justified this status with a superb performance more........

14th July 2007: Jessica Varnish has claimed victory in the Junior Women's Keirin at the European Championships in Cottbus, Germany. Jess demonstrated her huge potential by easily beating Serena Mensa of Italy to advance through from the first round in a time of 12.661s more........


Friday: Team Pursuit do it Again!

13th July 2007: Despite not being able to use Russell Hampton and Andy Tennant due to illness the Great Britain U23 Team Pursuit squad have once again become European Champions. The team of Peter Kennaugh, Steve Burke, Ben Swift and Jonny Bellis easily qualified fastest in a time of 4m 12.890s to second placed Russia's 4m 18.946s more........


Thursday: Tough Day in Cottbus

12th July 2007: Great Britain's U23 Team Sprint squad of Matt Crampton, Jason Kenny and Chris Lyte claimed the Bronze medal after easily beating the Greek trio by 0.4s. In the Gold medal ride off the French team were strengtened by the addition of Gregory Bauge, who was part of the World Championship winning Team Sprint squad. This time he teamed up with Mikael D'Almeida and Didier Henriette to emphatically beat their Polish opponents by two seconds. more........

11th July 2007: Britain's Junior's have successfully defended their Team Pursuit title at the European Track Champs on Day One in Cottbus, Germany more........

Yorick Bos: Yorick is a Junior Sprinter on the Dutch National Team, "During the last view weeks I have been feeling very strong, making a lot of progess. I still beat Patrick (Bos, my brother) and Yondi (Schmidt), but I'm getting closer by the day. I'm going for a 200m time below 11.20, to qualify myself for the World Championships in Mexico, and I'm sure I can do that. I would be very happy with a time below 11 seconds. For the Keirin I'm going for a place in the Final" more Yorick Bos........

Matt Crampton: Still only 21 Matt Crampton has a vast amount of experience under his belt, as was demonstrated at the recent Cardiff and Edinburgh International Grand Prix's where Matt claimed emphatic victories more Matt Crampton........

Peter Kennaugh: Manxman Peter Kennaugh shot to fame at the 2005/06 Revolution Future Stars competition where he dominated the events. He then went on to become Junior World Scratch race champion in 2006 and has an extremely bright future ahead of him more Peter Kennaugh........

Katie Curtis: British Cycling's faith in the young welsh girl was demonstrated when she was sent to the recent Worlds in Mallorca to gain experience that would help her develop into the much needed star of British women's endurance track racing. Since then she claimed Bronze in the National Derny paced champs more Katie Curtis........






Lucy Ayres: 2006 saw Wigan’s Lucy Ayres of Sportcity Velo develop into a world class sprinter. Often overlooked by many due to the World Championship winning performances of Victoria Pendleton and Anna Blyth, Lucy quietly had her best ever season, winning two silver medals in the British Junior National Championships and two bronze in the Seniors more Lucy Ayres........

Russ Hampton: At the Los Angeles World Cup Russell Hampton attacked during the Scratch race, little did he know that he would be able to lap the field and hold on to take the Gold medal, and with that the biggest victory of his track racing career so far more Russ Hampton........

Jess Varnish: In 2005 Halesowen AC&C’s Jessica Varnish was selected for the Olympic Development Programme a year ahead of the rest of her age group. The selection demonstrated the huge potential Jess possesses and the belief British Cycling have in her more Jess Varnish........

Dave Daniell: David Daniell’s victory in the Kilometre Time Trial at last year’s European Championship was some what overshadowed by the achievements of his teammate Jason Kenny. As we all know Jason claimed victory in the Team Sprint, Keirin and Sprint at both the European and Junior World Championships more Dave Daniell........
