Varnish wins Keirin!

Varno

Jessica Varnish has claimed victory in the Junior Women's Keirin at the European Championships in Cottbus, Germany

Jess demonstrated her huge potential by easily beating Serena Mensa of Italy to advance through from the first round in a time of 12.661s

She then dominated the final to easily beat Renata Dabrowska of Poland and the rider who beat her last night at the 500m TT, Kristina Vogel

Alex Greenfield

The current DHL Future Stars champion Alex Greenfield is now a European Champion thanks to a superb ride in the Junior Women's Points race final

Alex took a narrow victory (one point) from Elizaveta Asseserova of Russia and clearly holds a promising future, and a much needed prospect for the Women's track endurance scene

Gregory Bauge

The Men's U23 Sprint saw Gregory Bauge of France set an outstanding 200m qualification time of 9.903s, which for an outdoor track is an amazing time

Jason Kenny and Matt Crampton were unfortunately drawn against each other in Round 2 of the competition with Kenny progressing through leaving Crampton to finish 6th overall

Kenny then rode off for Bronze against the mighty Max Levy of Germany, and despite losing out in the first heat, fought back to take the medal in an outstanding performance

The final was contested between the two French favourites Bauge and Kevin Sireau, with Bauge becoming European Champion

In the Junior men's equivalent Dave Daniell was fastest qualifier with a time of 10.497s, whereas teammate Chris Lyte was 5th with 10.745s

Dave Daniell

Daniell then lost in Round 2 to Russian Kiril Fliatov but he came back in the repechage when David beat Quentin Lafargue (Fra) and Andrea Prati (Ita) to progress to the semi finals

Lyte lost out in the early round and was forced to ride off for 7th place overall, in which he claimed victory

Dave had no further problems and progressed to the final against Paul Kanzler of Germany, and easily claimed victory in two straight heats

Junior World Scratch race champion could only manage silver in the scratch race after Michael Vingerling made a fantastic break to claim the victory, however in the U23 version, Jonny Bellis took the honours after an impressive ride
