Dutch take Junior International at Alkmaar

The Dutch Junior World Champion Elise van Hage part of the Dutch team who were Overall winners at the Alkmaar Junior International


Great Britain took a selection of its best young riders to do battle in Alkmaar at the weekend

They faced tough competition from the best junior track stars from Holland and Belgium, including Yorick Bos, Michael Vingerling, Anouk Ligthart and Elise van Hage

Despite Britain's youngsters dominating the sprint events, Holland were victorious overall and Belgium's superior endurance squad was enough to give them second place with GB1 in third

In qualifying for the Women's Sprint, Welsh ODP rider Becky James set a fantastic time of 12.62s, however Halesowen's Jess Varnish proved too strong in the final and claimed the Gold, with Anouk Ligthart of the Netherlands just edging out Yasumitsu Schlapp's Jo Wilman for the Bronze

Wilman took the silver medal with James in the Team Sprint, Ligthart and Elise Van Hage took Gold with Varnish and Dani King teaming up to take the Bronze.

Ligthart also took the Gold in the Keirin ahead of James and Varnish, however Brits dominated the 500m TT with Varnish taking Gold in 38.03s, James silver in 38.10s and Wilman bronze in 38.37s

In the Men's 750m Scratch Brooks Cycles' Steve Hill took the Gold from Brian Ligneel of Belgium and teammate Josh Hargreaves.

Hill also teamed up with Dave Daniell and Chris Lyte to take the Team Sprint gold with a fantastic time of 48.46s, Britain showed strength in depth by taking the silver medal with Peter Mitchell, Josh Hargreaves and Tom Buck

Daniell also took Gold ahead of Hill and Yorick Bos in the Keirin, but perhaps the best result of the weekend was in the Men's Sprint when Chris Lyte beat Daniell to the Gold, with Mitchell 3rd, however the first non-British rider was Yorick Bos in 5th!!!

In the endurance events Luke Rowe took silver in the Points and Rhys Lloyd beat Toby Meadows (Silver) and Andy Fenn (Bronze) to take the Scratch race, with Alex Greenfield taking Bronze in the women's equivalent. Lloyd and Rowe also teamed up to take Madison Bronze.
