European U23/Junior Championships

10th September 2010: This weekend sees the start of the 2010 European U23 and Junior Championships at Lokosfinks Velodrome in St. Petersburg, Russia. The event not only gives riders the chance of proving to their National Federations that they are worthy for selection in the inaugural senior event in November, but also their first chance of riding the new Lokosfinks Velodrome.

As always, the French U23/Junior Team will be the ones to watch, with 2010 Junior Omnium World Champion Bryan Coquard keen to had more medals to his already fantastic medal-haul this season. Both the Italian (who had a strong Junior Worlds) and Russian team (benefitting from home advantage) may also pull off a few surprises.

The French Junior World Team Sprint Champions Julien Palma, Kevin Guillot and Benjamin Edelin will be keen to add the European title but will face a tough battle with the German team.

In the U23 category France’s Sandie Clair and Virginie Cueff will face a tough challenge from rising star Britain's Becky James, as will Quentin Lafargue as he goes head-to-head with German Tobias Wachter in the Sprint events.

World Junior Points Race Champion Julie Leth of Denmark will be keen to secure the European title but the strong Russian and Italian teams will surely have something to say about that
