Sireau Smashes 200m World Record

France's World Sprint Bronze Medallist Kevin Sireau smashed Theo Bos' World 200m TT Record this weekend at the Grand Prix of Moscow clocking an amazing time of 9.650s, 0.122s faster than Theo Bos' 9.772s set at the Moscow World Cup in December 2006.

World Champion Gregory Bauge also dipped under Bos' record with 9.654s as the two Frenchmen dominated proceedings in Russia.

Krylatskoye Velodrome is traditionally a fast track due to it being 333m instead of the normal 250m, meaning riders get a steeper line into 200m Time Trials allowing for an estimated 0.5s improvement on 200m Times.

Gregory Bauge also broke the World Record

Unfortunately for the World Champion he was knocked out of the Sprint in the Quarter Finals by World Keirin Champion Max Levy, however Sireau safely made it to the final at the expense of, amongst others, Christos Volikakis of Greece and Pavel Yakushevskiy of Russia.

There he faced Mathias Stumpf of Germany who knocked out his team-mate Levy in the Semis, however he was no match for Sireau who clearly demonstrated his off-season training is going exceedingly well as he easily claimed victory. Levy took Bronze from the youngster Yakushevskiy

Later in the meeting the event organisers held a special 'World Record Attempt' 200m TT where riders would attempt to further decrease the World Record time, of the riders who lined up to attempt to enter the History as the Fastest Sprinter in the World, only Bauge and Sireau beat Sireau's previous mark as Bauge clocked 9.622s however Sireau clocked an unthinkable 9.572s to further improve his World Record time.

Clara Sanchez Claimed the Women's Sprint

In the Women's event's Russia's Olga Streltsova beat Clara Sanchez of France and Diana Gloss of Germany to win the Keirin.

Sanchez then took an impressive victory in the Sprint after topping the 200m Qualification times with 10.930s ahead of her team-mate Sandie Clair (11.045s) and World 500m TT Champion Simona Krupeckaite (11.180s).

In an un-popular format riders were drawn in 3-up Sprints, with Krupeckaite and Sanchez losing out in the Semi-Finals to Sandie Clair, however luckily for Sanchez she was able to fight he way back into the final via the repechage at the expense of Krupeckaite to make it into the final where she would beat Clair and Streltsova
