Kate Cullen won her firstManchester title on the
third evening of competition as Craig MacLean and Chris
Newton added to their long list of championship victories.
MacLean
made it seven sprint titles with a 2-0 win over Ross Edgar in
the final. Edgar led out the first ride, but MacLean squeezed
past on the line to win by 14 centimetres on the
photo-finish before securing a more comfortable second win
from the front.
The
bronze went to Chris Hoy to give Scotland's gold
medal-winning Commonwealth Games team sprint trio a clean
sweep of the podium places.
City
of
Edinburgh
rider Cullen
took the women's 30km points race title in commanding
fashion, scoring maximum points
in
six of the sprints to finish 20 clear of silver medallist
Alexandra Greenfield with Cardiff Ajax CC also taking the
bronze medal through Katie Curtis.
Cullen
dominated the 120-lap race and is hoping that her performance
will convince the national selectors to give her a World Cup
ride. "I'd love to be selected, but it's not my decision,"
said the 29-year-old.
Chris
Newton won his fifth 20km scratch race title - his first
dating back to 1993.
Newton
lapped the field with Ian Stannard, Kieran Page and James
Taylor shortly before half-distance, and then took a second
lap in a group containing Malcolm Elliott, Ed Clancy, Jonny
Bellis and Evan Oliphant.
Stannard
and Page also gained a second lap going into the closing
stages to set up a tense finish as Peter Kennaugh also took a
lap, but
Newton
came out on top in the final sprint to clinch
the gold ahead of Page.
The championship's continue
until the 7th of October.
