It was a night of records inManchester as Jody Cundy
(LC2), Darren Kenny (CP3) and the tandem pairing of Anthony
Kappes and Barney Storey (V1) all set new
Paralympic world bests in the disability 200 metres
flying start time trial.
Kappes
and Storey were so quick that their time of 10.411 seconds
shaved eight one-thousandths of a second from the British
able-bodied record held by Terry Tinsley and Paul
Sydenham.
Joanne
Fenwick (LC1) was also faster than the world mark in her
category but as she hasn't yet been classified for
international racing, her time can only stand as a national
record.
Champions
in 2003 as Team Athena, the Sydney Olympic silver
medalists Craig MacLean, Chris Hoy and Jason Queally lowered
their own championship record to 44.326 seconds on their way
to winning a superb team sprint competition. Recycling.co.uk -
Jamie Staff, Ross Edgar and Matt Crampton - took second place
ahead of Britain's junior world
champions Christian Lyte, Jason Kenny and David Daniell in a
competition which underlined how difficult it will be for
Britain's selectors
this season.
Victoria
Pendleton repeated last year's title treble when she retained
her sprint title by beating world junior silver medalist Anna
Blyth in two straight rides in the
final.
The
closing final of the night brought a change of the guard with
19-year-old Ross Sander taking gold in the 40km points race
ahead of Evan Oliphant and Peter Kennaugh who, like the
winner, was a member of Britain's
all-conquering junior world championship team this
summer.
The
riders lapped the field immediately after the fourth sprint
with 79 laps still to go, and Sander - who broke his arm
earlier in the year - made sure of the title with four sprint
wins and two seconds.
The championship's continue until the 7th
of October.
