2008 Beijing Olympic Games

On Friday August the 15th the biggest sporting festival in the world hits the Track in Beijing. Laoshan Velodrome in the Shijingshan District of Beijing shall host five days of racing where the best riders from the last four years will do battle for the most coveted title in Sport, Olympic Champion

Men's Team Sprint

The Great Britain Team Sprint trio of Jamie Staff, Jason Kenny and Chris Hoy stormed round the Laoshan Velodrome in Beijing to a new World Best Time in the Qualification round of the Team Sprint of the Olympic Games

The squad set a time of 42.950s, 0.6s quicker than France's 43.541s to dramatically turn the tables on the results of the World Championships in Manchester earlier this year

Jamie Staff set an opening lap of 17.19s, but afterwards looked disappointed as he expected to go sub 17, perhaps a sign of things to come from Team GB

Kenny then followed with a 12.563s with Hoy rounding things off with a 13.170s to give the Great British team a new World Best time

The Olympic Games do not follow the traditional Team Sprint format, and therefore the top eight teams had to compete in Round One, before the Final

Great Britain faced slowest qualifier USA so understandably held something back in the round, with Staff clocking 17.308s with Kenny and Hoy following up to still easily record the fastest time of 43.034s

World Champions France will meet the Britons in the final after they beat the ever improving Malaysian team of Azizu Awang, Josiah Ng, Rizal Tisin who smashed their personal best in both Qualification and Round One, however it still wasn't enough to beat France who made the final in 43.656s to Malaysia's 44.822s

Despite Hoy loosing touch in the Final, GB still won with ease

Germany and Australia beat Japan and Netherlands to set up the Bronze medal ride off, which despite the Aussies leading after the first two laps, but the German Olympic Champions from 2004 pulled things back to clinch the Bronze medal

Even though they had 'only' claimed a Bronze in comparison to their Gold in Athens, the German team of Rene Enders, Max Levy and Stefan Nimke were still in tears afterwards

Next up was the final with overwhelming favourites Britain looking to avenge the years of French Team Sprint domination, and that they did with relative ease

Despite Hoy misjudging Kenny's start causing Chris to lose contact with the team, GB were still able to hammer the French by a massive 0.5s, with Gregory Bauge, Kevin Sireau and Arnaud Tournant setting a time of 43.651s to Britain's Gold medal winning time of 43.128s
