
Hargreaves shines at Revolution 18Despite not claiming overall victory in any of the Sprint events British Cycling's Olympic Academy Rider Josh Hargreaves wowed the crowd at Revolution 18 The youngster from Leeds has long been over-looked by the public as riders like Dave Daniell, Chris Lyte, Jason Kenny and Pete Mitchell all claimed World Championship titles whilst in the GB Junior ranks However in round one of the Revolution Sprint Josh turned on the style to the delight of the crowd as he beat German powerhouse Paul Kanzler and French rider Quentin Lafargue Staying on the front for the duration of the sprint, Hargreaves defended his position in impressive style as both Kanzler and Lafargue tried to muscle their way to the front Hargreaves managed to hold on with some outstanding tactics to take the victory and progress to the semi-final against Pete Mitchell who had toppled the mighty Dave Daniell and Germany's Gregor Fischer
Josh 'Givin' it Some' to get a much deserved win Junior World Team Sprint Champion Mitchell was favourite to make the final, but with Hargreaves on form and employing simple tactics he didn't have an easy task, only just beating Leeds'latest hero on the line After eliminated double Junior World Champion Chris Lyte and his World Champion team-mate Thierry Jollet in round one, Charlie Conord of France showed he'll be one to watch in 2008 by beating Mitchell in the Final Those male sprinters who were unlucky not to reach the final then went into the Revolution Mile Dash, which as usual produced a fantastic battle, with Revolution 17 Mile Dash winner Steve Hill (Brooks Cycles/Velodrome.org.uk) losing out to Chris Lyte who needed a photo finish to separate him from Dave Daniell
Mighty GB were too strong for the German Jnr Team The crowd were also treated to a Junior Women's Sprint Omnium with Germany's Junior World Champion Kristina Vogel was joined by Charlene Delev and Hannah Welte to take on GB's Jess Varnish, Becky James and new Sprint ODP member Laura Trott Despite suffering from a heavy cold, Varnish put in strong performances and only just lost the 'Grudge-Match' against Vogel, whom she lost to in the final of the Women's Junior Sprint Championship earlier this year in Aguascalientes, Mexico Becky James delighted the crowd as she set a stunning 200m TT time of 11.944s, which was only beaten by World Champion Vogel who recorded 11.885s Laura Trott didn't let the pressure of riding n GB colours for the first time get to her, as she excited the crowd with her track stands and thrilling sprints, putting in a very impressive performance, envidence that BC have found yet another exciting prospect for the future The Boys DHL Future Stars events again produced some fantastic races, with McLay taking the opening Devil after some excellent teamwork by East Midlands, and in particular George Atkins
Two victories on the night for Chris Whorral Next up was the Mile Dash, which was taken by the Isle of Man's Chris Whorral with McLay coming home in fourth, and despite Whorral taking the 5k Scratch race McLay and Atkins were able to defend the formers overall lead The Girls events were subject to some controversial team selections, with a number of established Olympic Development Program riders entered, however despite dominating performances only last year's DHL Future Stars Champion and European Champion Alex Greenfield could claim a victory in the Devil
Harriet Owen took an emotional victory in the 5k Scratch Ella Hopkins sprinted to victory in the opening Mile Dash and Harriet Owen attacked to victory in the 5k Scratch, which delighted the crowd after a blunder by Commissaires ment Harriet thought her dreams had been shattered as the bell was mistakingly rung as she crossed the line for victory Katie Fearnehough was unable to match her Revolution 17 performances as she slipped to fourth overall behind new leader Corrine Hall Revolution 18 was billed as a 'Six-Day' Special and the stars on show produced some fine displays with Franco Marvulli, Ben Swift and Chris Newton taking victories in very close fought out races
100%ME win the 3km Team Pursuit Challenge The 100%ME team of Jonny Bellis, Andy Tennant and Peter Kennaugh easily beat Spain to win the 3km (3up) Pursuit Challenge. Bellis then teamed up with Ben Swift to wow the crowd in the Madison 1km TT, as they claimed victory in a time just 0.1s outside the Revolution record of Arnaud Tournant and Craig Maclean
