Crampton's Revolution Strikes Again! For so long Matt Crampton has lived in the shadows of the likes of Chris Hoy, Ross Edgar and Jason Kenny but 2008 has seen him progress to a level that saw him become European Keirin Champion and Four Times British National Champion in September, before he followed that up at the beginning of this month with victory in the JKA International Keirin at the Manchester World Cup. Now last night at Revolution 21, Crampton dominated proceedings once again with a victory in the Elite Sprint and Keirin competitions. Men's Elite Sprint Events Round One of the Sprint saw Crampton line up against former Junior World Champion Peter Mitchell (Team Terminator) who looked in a different class as Matt's far superior turn of speed left him with no answer as Crampton easily progressed through.Elsewhere Jamie Staff was making a rare outing in anything other than a Team Sprint, he faced star of the future Steve Hill. Obviously knowledgeable of Hill's potential, Staff laid off the youngster by some considerable distance before launching a huge attack and firing past Hill to also make the Semi-Finals with relative ease Perhaps the most evenly matched First Round Sprint was Heat Three that saw Olympic Keirin Silver Medallist Ross Edgar take on the current leader of the Kilo in the UCI World Cup Standings Dave Daniell. In an attempt to prevent Daniell from unleashing his endurance sprint, Edgar pinned the rider from Middlesborough to the top of the track for the duration of the encounter, before attacking at the bell to take the victory In the final heat Olympic Team Sprint Champion Jason Kenny faced Chris Lyte of Sport City Velo and easily took his place in the Semi-Finals In Semi-Final one Staff faced Crampton and to the delight of the crowd it was an extremely tactical encounter, with lengthly track stands as strangely Staff wanted to force Crampton to the front, despite the risk of Crampton riding away due to his face superior sprint endurance Despite Staff having incredible power it was clear to see he was never going to be able to get round Crampton once he up to speed and so it was Matt who made the Final The second Semi-Final was between Ross Edgar and Jason Kenny, the two massive rivals in the British camp, after Kenny replaced Edgar in the Olympic Team Sprint squad. Kenny took the front early leading out Edgar coming into the last lap, however everybody knows that once Edgar gets a wheel to chase he is hard to shake off, and despite Kenny's best efforts, Edgar managed to make the final thanks to the Photo Finish equipment Another rivalry that has been brewing in the British Camp is that between Keirin Specialists Crampton and Edgar, so the Sprint Final at Revolution 21 gave them something else to fight over Just like against Daniell, Edgar forced Crampton to the top of the track before launching a huge attack down the back straight with 200m to go to leave Ross standing and take yet another victory Next up Crampton had his favoured event, the Keirin and in true endurance sprinter style he took control from the front to simply ride away from the opposition leaving his seven rivals standing with Jason Kenny taking second Sprint Round One Results Matt Crampton beat Peter Micthell Jamie Staff beat Steve Hill Ross Edgar beat Dave Daniell Jason Kenny beat Chris Lyte Sprint Semi-Final Results Matt Crampton beat Jamie Staff Ross Edgar beat Jason Kenny Sprint Final Results Matt Crampton beat Ross Edgar Keirin Results 1. This was enough to give her the overall victory from Series favourtie Harriet Owen and Hannah Walker In the next event, the 5km Scratch Race Miller featured strongly again, however this time Owen got her revenge taking the victory on the line from Millar and Walker As is often the case in Women's racing, especially the Junior events a crash caused chaos in the bunch in the final Girls Future Stars event of the night, however it didn't stop Leicester's Lucy Garner taking a fine victory for East Midlands in the Mile Dash from Hannah Barnes and Laura Trott Points Race Results 1. The pair stayed clear for the last few laps of the race with Harrison confirming his victory with more points on the line Tunstall Wheelers rider Kian Emadi from the West Midlands took an impressive victory in the final event of the night for the Future Stars, the 5km Scratch Race. Despite numerous attacks early on in the race including one from overall leader Harrison, Emadi held his nerve and waited for the bunch sprint to show his all-round potential and take the victory Mile Dash Results 1. As the Derny Driver Pete Deary left the track Barloworld's Olympic and World Team Pursuit Champion Geraint Thomas hit the front and left the field for dead, taking the victory ahead of British Academy member Jonny McEvoy and Steve Burke In the traditional version of the Scratch Race, Rob Hayles and Andrew Magnier were the first to attack and stayed clear for sometime before the field responded as Bradley McGee shot clear with Ed Clancy. Shortly after Peter Kennaugh, Alex Dowsett and Guy East (USA) joined the pair, the latter of which recently claimed victory in the UIV U23 Series at the Dortmund Six day with Austin Carroll. It looked like the bunch had sat us after McGee went clear to allow the Aussie a fitting swan song to his career, and the same can be said for the riders off the front as coming into the final lap McGee instigated the final sprint with little challenge from Clancy, Kennaugh, Dowsett and East to take the win The final event of the night was the Men's Points Race, with Chris Newton again producing a fine Points Race display to win with ease from Stuart O'Grady and Ed Clancy Motor Paced Scratch Results 1.
