Cyclo Sportive/Plan B Winter Track GP

Early Sunday morning 29th June was the start of our Cyclo Sportif – Plan B Winter Track Grand Prix, over 500 cyclists starting their ride in various teams riding a 14km circuit near the Midvale Velodrome with wind and rain, thank goodness for track racing.

The Grand Prix started around 11.00 am, a nice sensible time on a Sunday morn. Murray Hall, Track Cycling WA’s Chairman, had worked like a Trojan to make this event a success with the New Zealand track team and some of the AIS coming over from Adelaide to compete also some of our ‘home grown’ were in town, world junior champions Josie Tomic, Travis Meyer and Scott

Sunderland plus Olympian Graham Brown just dropped in to add some spice to the meet, various cycle shops had been invited to display their goods behind the back straight plus the centre of the track had been converted into a dining area for around 200 reunion guests.

The theme for the days racing was set in the Flying 200m T/T with Sam Webster (NZ) time of 10.90 secs on a very cold track, then the endurance boys started with 25 lap Scratch Race, Graham Brown’s class just shone through with this win and so it went on, the Aussie vs. NZ Team Sprint’s, Men & Women, had the crowd to their feet with the Aussies boys just beating

NZ by 0.01sec, the Aussie girls also beat NZ , the home team had not raced together before.

In the 5 lap Cyclo Sportif-Plan B Wheel Race Myron Simpson just pipped Graham Brown(scr) with a very fast finishing junior Mitch Benson a very close 3rd and so it went on just a great days track racing, our local riders were there in the thick of the action, ‘Pocket Rocket”, Duane

Johansen did his normal fine riding and topped the local rider points score, maybe the highlight of the day was Graham Brown’s short cut across the inner green in the 50 lap Points Score, he won the points sprint but did not score any brownie points with the Commissaire who disqualified him from that sprint but of course he did go on and the win the event by just one point.

So there, everybody had a great day at the Velodrome and I saw it all for free, well not quite I was one of the judges.

EXCLUSIVE: The Dolan DF3

Dolan DF3

After the huge success of the original Arc, Terry Dolan decided to create his own mould rather than base his version on Peter Teschner's Teschner Track Pro. Trying to improve a frame that was already far superior to others on the market was a hard task to undertake more........
