In 2008 Manchester Velodrome plays host to the Track Cycling World Championships, starting on Wednesday the 26th of March until Sunday the 30th the British crowd will be eager to see the home riders repeat their achievements of 2007 when they won seven World Championship titles

4th April 2008: The Union Cycliste Internationale has been delighted with last week’s World Track Championships held in Manchester 26th – 30th March. The five day event saw Great Britain win nine gold medals and set two world records. The crowds filled the Velodrome in SportsCity with the final four nights completely sold out more........

30th March 2008: American Jennie Reed has claimed victory in the Women's Keirin on the final day of the World Track Cycling Championships at Manchester Velodrome. Reed beat defending champion Victoria Pendleton and 2006 Champion Christin Muche of Germany in the sprint for the line to win her first World title more........

D4: Outstanding GB Win Three More Golds




29th March 2008: Not content with their tally of six Gold medals, the Great British Track Cycling team won three more World Titles on Day Four of the Track Cycling World Championships at Manchester Velodrome. Chris Hoy successfully defended his World Keirin title with relative ease, with Victoria Pendleton doing the same for her Sprint title. Bradley Wiggins and Mark Cavendish were extremely impressive in the Madison taking a clear victory and Britain's ninth World Title more........

27th March 2008: Day Two of the Manchester World Championships saw the home nation emphatically dominate all events, winning three more World Titles to add to yesterday's Gold from Bradley Wiggins. The Men's Team Pursuit qualification saw the top four teams all set outstanding times to make the Medal Ride-Offs a mouth watering prospect more........

D1: Wiggins Cruises to Third World Title




26th March 2008: Bradley Wiggins has cruised to victory in the Men's 4km Individual Pursuit in typical style here tonight in Manchester, as he beat Dutch rider Jenning Huizenga by five seconds to win his third Individual Pursuit World Title Qualification saw Huizenga record a time of 4m 16.343s to top the standings after Wiggins under the instruction of coach Shane Sutton sat up and coasted to the final in 4m 17.024s more........



Rob Hayles



Hayles Fails Blood Test:
Britain's Rob Hayles has been withdrawn from the World Track Cycling Championships after recording an anomaly in Health Test Results. Obviously rumours about high blood levels (Haematocrit level of 50.3%) more........
