UCI World Track Cycling Championships 2009
The 2009 World Track Cycling Championships take place at the BGZ Arena in Pruszków, Poland from Wednesday the 25th to Sunday the 29th of March
Pruszków with a population of 54,000 is the largest city located on the western side of Warsaw.
In fact, it is one of the capital city’s outlying districts, as the center of Warsaw is an 18 km drive or train ride away.
Pruszków is not only a county capital, but also the largest and most industrialised city on the left bank of the
Vistula River in the Mazovia region
Track Cycling's Golden Future

D5: Brillant Bauge Battles to Gold
29th March 2009: French powerhouse Gregory Bauge overcame crashes, defeats and photo finishes to claim his first individual World Title in the Men's Sprint
on the final day of the World Track Cycling Championships in Pruszkow, Poland. Bauge qualified fastest in the Men's 200m Time Trial Sprint Qualification with a stunning time of 9.930s, the only
rider to go sub10 on what is billed as the best track in the World more........
D4: Pendleton Overcomes Mighty Kanis for Gold
28th March 2009: Day Four of the Pruszkow World Track Cycling Championships in Poland saw Victoria Pendleton defend her World Sprint title after an extremely
tough final against Dutch rider Willy Kanis. The Olympic, World and Commonwealth Champion made up for a disappointing start to her quest to become World Champion in all four sprint events
(she got Silver in the Team Sprint and Bronze in the 500m TT) by topping the standings in the 200m TT in the Women's Sprint.
Last off as defending Champion Pendleton yet again was the only woman to go sub11 with a fantastic 10.971s effort, which was nearing 0.2s faster than arch-rival Simona Krupeckaite
of Lithuania who recorded 11.134s more........
D3: Danish Dominate Team Pursuit
27th March 2009: Day Three of the Pruszkow World Championships bought more disappointment for British Cycling as they
failed to medal in their showcase event, the Men's 4km Team Pursuit.

D2: Aussie, Aussie, Aussie!!
26th March 2009: Australian's Anna Meares and Kaarle McCulloch set a new World Best Time in the Women's Team Sprint to easily beat defending World Champions Shanaze
Reade and Victoria Pendleton to become Team Sprint World Champions on Day Two of the Pruszkow World Championships in Poland. The Aussie's topped the qualification times with 33.452s which was 0.146s faster than the British to secure their place in the final.
With the exception of Meares and McCulloch, this year's competition was much closer than in previous years with the top five teams all very closely matched.

D1: Krupeckaite Makes History
25th March 2009: Lithuanian Simona Krupeckaite made history today at the World Track Cycling Championships in Pruszkow,
Poland after she claimed the Gold Medal and Rainbow Jersey in the Women's 500m Time Trial in a new World Record time of 33.296s, a massive 0.3s faster than
Anna Meares' 33.588s World Record from the 2007 Worlds in Mallorca. Krupeckaite did not participate in the last round of the World Cup preferring to return home to the new Velodrome in
Lithuania and put in some intensive training, which obviously paid off with a simply amazing performance that even 500m Time Trial legend Meares could not match.

24th March 2009: Olympic gold, silver and bronze medallist, Anna Meares, will contest the first medal final at this week's UCI Track Cycling World Championships in Poland when she races the 500 metre time trial on Wednesday (local time).
Meares, whose inspirational recovery from a broken neck in January last year saw her claim a silver medal in the sprint at the Beijing Olympic Games, will line up in the event in which she holds the World Record but says there is less pressure on her this year. Meares took a break from training after the Olympic Games and has only been back on the bike since January.

Irish Team Pursuit Denied Worlds Spot
19th March 2009: The quartet may have been seventh and then fifth in the last two World Cups, but the Irish team
pursuit squad will have to sit out this month's world championships after failing to get a wildcard for the event.
David O'Loughlin, David McCann, Paul Healion and Martyn Irvine went close to a ride-off for bronze in last month's World Cup meet in Copenhagen; their national record-breaking time of four minutes 11.587 seconds put them less than a second outside the ride-off for the bronze medal.

Copenhagen Track Cycling World Cup
Germany Claim Overall World Cup: After three years of Dutch domination, the UCI Track Cycling World Cup Classics is back in the hands of Germany. The victory of Marcel Barth and Robert Bartko in the Madison - the last event of the fifth round, held in Copenhagen - was a symbolic sign of the change in the balance of power between the two teams. The Germans are in front of the Netherlands, winners in the last act of the competition, in the final classification. Great Britain, returning to the competition with its best riders, finishes third.
Five weeks before the UCI Track Cycling World Championships in Pruszkow (Poland), which will close the track season, the French sprinters easily dominated the direct confrontation with the British. Moreover, the British were forced to make do without their key athlete Chris Hoy, who fell in the final of the keirin.
