Chris Hoy showed why he is one of the greatest all time track sprinters when he hammered the opposition in the final of the Men's Keirin tonight in Palma, Mallorca
Hoy attacked as soon as the Motorbike left the track with just under three laps remaining, he was then passed by France's Mickael Bourgain, but cleverly sat in and waiting until the final bend to sprint past Bourgain to take the Gold medal
Defending World Champion Theo Bos and Britain's Ross Edgar then passed Bourgain to take the Silver and Bronze medals respectively
"I'm totally shocked and delighted," said Hoy. "It was way beyond my
expectations because I'm a novice to this event and I used my strength to go hard at the finish."
Bronze Medallist Ross Edgar
The ride off for the Bronze Medal will feature the New Zealand team of Sam Bewley, Westley Gough, Peter Latham and Marc Ryan who will face the Danish team
The suprise of the morning was the poor time of 4m 07.447s set by the current World Champions Australia, who selected Peter Dawson, Zak Dempster, Matt Goss and Mark Jamieson to ride
